Designed to ease the transition from the hospital to home, Little Company of Mary Mother—Infant Program offers services for both mother and baby. With the mother’s consent and a doctor’s order, a qualified perinatal nurse will visit your home 2-3 days after discharge from Little Company of Mary Hospital.  

For the Baby:
• Check weight and vital signs
• Behavior - answer questions on crying, sleeping patterns
• Immunizations - guidelines and follow-up appointment recommendations
• Illness - what are common signs? what should I do?
• Blood tests - done by the nurse based on an individual need with
  the doctor’s order

For the Mother:
• Breast and bottle feeding - helpful hints, formula preparation, instructional
  guidance and various feeding techniques
• Medical Care - remove staples, care of incision, blood pressure check,
  discuss nutrition, weight, hygiene and breast-feeding
• Adjustment - common feelings, getting your rest, taking time for yourself
  and review of commonly asked questions from new parents
• Enjoy yourself - provide support and encouragement so that you may
  enjoy the new addition to your family

California law entitles you to homecare services:
• If you leave the hospital within 48 hours after a vaginal childbirth
• If you leave the hospital within 96 hours after a caesarean section
• If the new mother desires, a complimentary visit is arranged through
  the homecare agency
• Your doctor will need to give an order for homecare services
