Once the pediatric program is successfully in place adjacent to the Womens Clinic
(expected by Summer 2002), a second location will be considered for Wilmington or San
Pedro. Im thrilled that we are going to be able to provide both pediatric
and perinatal care in one location, said Debbie Cheeks, RN, Maternal/Child Health
Clinic manager. These children really need our help, and it will make such a
difference for moms to enjoy the convenience of one-stop
care.
The implementation of the Maternal/Child Health Clinic effectively removes both
affordability and accessibility obstacles to maternal/child care and provides essential
direct patient-care services to a highly vulnerable population,
including:
Initial post-partum newborn visit
Sibling screening
Well baby/child checks (on-going)
Childhood immunizations
Diagnosis and treatment of childhood diseases
Referral to specialists
Health education
Outreach and enrollment in affordable insurance programs
The Pediatric Wellness Program is supported by a grant from the UniHealth Foundation, a
non-profit philanthropic organization whose mission is to support and facilitate activities
that significantly improve the health and well being of individuals and communities within
its service area.
